MALANKA 2010: The 6th Annual Ukrainian New Year Dinner Dance – MALANKA – will take place on Friday evening, January 15, 2010, 6:00pm to 1:00am, at St. Vladimir Parish Center, 428 North Seventh Avenue, Scranton. Sponsored by the combined Ukrainian organizations of Northeastern Pennsylvania, the event will be catered by Paul A. Wanas of Accentuate Caterers of Distinctive Events offering a generously varied American and Ukrainian dinner buffet including borshch, holubchi, chicken Kyiv, kobasa, pyrohy, along with a cash bar and dancing to the music of the internationally known orchestra “Fata Morgana” of New Jersey/New York plus a late night champagne toast. Tickets are $40.00 and can be obtained by contacting Gerry Adamchak at 824-3880 or Ann Beshada at 829-4202. Early reservations are encouraged as the event is usually a sell-out. The Planning Committee is composed of members of the Ukrainian Heritage Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania; St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Scranton; St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Scranton; and, North Anthracite Council of the League of Ukrainian Catholics.

SANCTUARY LIGHT: The Sanctuary light is requested to burn this week November 21 – 28 by Eleanor Kulick & Family in memory of her husband Frank Kulick.

PIGGIE DINNER: Some recognition was missed in last weeks bulletin – Anna Koprowski donated a monetary gift, a clock with the Thermos Server and she also sold 16 tickets for the dinner. Louise and Mike Hubiack donated all the Potatoes and Louise sold 22 tickets. Many thanks for all the baked goodies and dessert. We
appreciate all the generous donations made to make this fund-raiser a success. The profit from the dinner is $1565.73.

PYROHY PROJECT: The Pyrohy Project will be held on
Monday, Nov. 30, at 11:00 AM to prepare and Tuesday, Dec. 1, 8:00 AM for the making and filling of orders. This project cannot be accomplished without the help. If you can possibly help in any way it
would be appreciated. Try to lend a hand for your Church fund-raiser.

WOMEN’S SOCIETY: The Women’s Society regular monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, November 10, during preparation of the Piggie Dinner. All members are urged to come to help with the dinner preps. A new smaller refrigerator was purchased for the Hall kitchen by the funds taken in from the rummage sale. This was needed so that we do not have to run the very large refrigerator, which takes so much electricity, for when we have fund-raisers.

ANNUAL AUTUMN PARISH DINNER: The annual autumn dinner sponsored by St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Parish of Scranton PA will take place on Sunday, November 15, 2009 beginning at 12:30 PM in the Parish Center. Menu includes a complete homemade turkey dinner. Take-outs will be available, but must be picked up between 11:00AM and Noon. Tickets: $11.00 Adults; $5.50 Students ages 6 – 12 years; Children 5 years & younger are free. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting Kathleen Izak at 570 346-2414

LOTTERY: Thanks to Mike Sinko for his efforts to have the Lottery fund-raiser again. Tickets are still available. Good luck to all who purchased tickets and many thanks to those who sold tickets.

TURKEY–FEST: SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, will hold their 10th annual TURKEY-FEST on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, in the school hall, corner of North River and West Chestnut Streets, Wilkes-Barre. This event will feature a traditional turkey dinner, variety raffle and mini-festival. Dinners will be $8.50 for adults and $6.00 for children. Take-outs will be available. Walk-Ins welcome but reservations are encouraged – call (570)824-6090. This year we ask that those attending bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Food Pantry of the Catholic Community of North Wilkes-Barre – Holy Savoir/St. Christopher. Those donating a food item will be entered into our door prize drawing.

LUC MEETING: North Anthracite Council League of Ukrainian Catholics of America will hold their monthly meeting this Sunday, November 1, 2009, at Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, 240 Center St. Nanticoke, PA. Prayer Service will begin at 2:00 PM. The meeting, fellowship and social will follow.

SANCTUARY LIGHT: The Sanctuary light is requested to burn this week October 31 – Nov. 7 by Charles Drazba & Family in memory of Marie Drazba.

GENERATIONS OF FAITH: A meeting of Generations of Faith will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 6:30 PM in the Church Hall. The theme for this planning session will be PHILIP’S FAST – PRE-NATIVITY.

RUMMAGAE SALE: The Women’s Society wishes to thank all those who donated items, monetary or food to our recent Rummage Sale. It was a huge success thanks to all the members who came out to help and especially Anna Magill and Irene Frisbie who worked so diligently before, during and after the sale. The sales of items plus the monetary donations, food sales and bake sale amounted to $2901.80, the expenses for ads etc. will be deducted from this amount.

Our appreciation for all donations made for the improvements of our Church and for needed items.
