A FATHER’S ROLE

The essence of the father’s role
Is to mirror God’s own heart
And to value instruction in God’s ways
With the grace that God imparts

Every father needs God’s wisdom
To carry out his role
As the tower of strength and support,
For each fragile heart he holds
And there’s no greater reward in life
For a father to take his place
And uphold the values of the Lord
With integrity and grace.

MY FATHER’S DAY PRAYER
May God’s blessings be on you
In everything you do
In your going out and coming in,
May His presence be with you
For you have shown me the way
And taught me by God’s wisdom,
So Dad, today, I will return
The love you’ve freely given.
For our dearly departed Fathers
Lord, Grant them peace!

Father’s Day Honors to all
Fathers of Unknown Airmen, Coasties, Marines, Sailors,
and Soldiers interned on Land or in the Seas throughout this world!
Dear Father Up in Heaven
Watch over our soldiers who fight
For they are fighting for you Father
For the difference in wrong and right

Protect them dear Father
And mend their scars and hearts
For they are far from home dear Father
And their families are torn in parts

Watch over their families, dear Father
Keep those children from all harm
For it’s the children who suffer, Father
When they fall under satins evil charm

We’ll try and watch for satin dear Father
So our hearts won’t let him in
And try our best, dear Father
To shun away from his sins

I pray for the women, dear Father
Raising their kids all alone
never knowing, dear Father
If their husbands will make it home
This prayer I pray to you, dear Father
It’s this prayer I shall pray again
Until the wars are all over
And there is love among all men
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL OUR FATHERS

PARISHIONERS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND
Metropolitan Stefan has decided to convey the “Summary” and “Report” of the 2014 Sobor onto the deanery level by means of a series of meetings in each of the six deaneries of the Archeparchy.  Our Deanery has chosen Thursday, June 18th, for the meeting and thanks to the gracious cooperation of Fr. Paul it will be held at St. Vladimir Parish Hall in Edwardsville from 6:30pm-8:30pm.  Light refreshments will be served. The meeting will be conducted by Chancery staff with the possible attendance of the Metropolitan. The deanery Fathers, pastoral and finance council members, Sobor delegates and any and all interested parishioners are asked and encouraged to attend.  The deanery encourages these individuals to attend so that we will have a good representation at the meeting.  There should be no observers from outside our parishes.
The purpose is to facilitate the implementation of the conclusions of the Sobor in each deanery and to mitigate the often heard criticism that nothing is done after the Sobor.  It is important for all participants to be familiar with the “Summary” and ” Report” and conclusions of the Sobor which were distributed to all of us at the recent clergy conference.

THE FEAST OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS
The feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was adopted by the Syrian, Maronite, Chaldean, Armenian, Melchite, and Italo-Greek Catholics of the Eastern Church. The revision of our liturgical books conducted by the Holy See in the 1940’s retained the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in our breviary under the name “The Feast of the Most Sweet Lord and God our Savior Jesus Christ, Lover of Mankind.”
In his promises given to St. Margaret Alacoque, Jesus Christ promised the veneration of his Sacred Heart the necessary graces for their state of life; peace in their families; consolation in their pains and trials; assured refuge in life, and especially the grace of a happy death. Millions of souls throughout the world have found peace and happiness, growth in love, and the practice of Christian virtues in the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
A characteristic mark of love is to sacrifice oneself for the beloved and strive to repay love for love. Such was the love of our Savior: “We love God, for he has first loved us,” says St. John in his first letter.
In the encyclical of June 28, 1889 – where he encourages all to embrace the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Pope Leo Xlll writes: “The most fervent desire of our Savior is to see the fire of love with which his heart burns being born and growing in the souls of the faithful. Therefore, let us go to him for he asks of us nothing more than that we repay him love for love.”

Saying the Jesus Prayer
The classical form of the Jesus Prayer is,
“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner

SECOND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST THE FEAST OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST JUNE 7, 2015

6 06 2015

At the Last Supper Jesus Christ instituted the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist so that the Holy Sacrifice might be offered up in the Church through all ages as the spiritual food of the faithful. According to the Second Vatican Council, “At the Last Supper, on the night when He was betrayed, Our Savior instituted the Eucharistic Sacrifice of His Body and Blood. He did this in order to perpetrate the sacrifice of the Cross throughout the centuries until he should come again, and thus to entrust to His beloved spouse, the Church, a memorial of His death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a paschal banquet in which Christ is eaten, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.”
Good and praiseworthy are the various venerations of the Holy Eucharist, but the most praiseworthy is that which best corresponds to the will of Christ our Lord, and which is compatible with the tradition of the Eastern Church and with the spirit of our rite; such a veneration is the love and appreciation for the Divine Liturgy and frequent Holy Communion. This is what Christ wants, this is what the Church encourages, and this is what the need of our soul demands.
Therefore, the Most Holy Eucharist as connected with the act of the Unbloody Sacrifice of the Divine Liturgy and Holy Communion, should, and must always, occupy first place in our Church. As regards the significance of Holy Communion for our spiritual life, St. Pope Pius X says; “Holy Communion – is the shortest and surest way to heaven.”

A VETERAN DIED TODAY- Requested by a Veteran for the original Memorial Day
He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast.
And he sat around the Legion telling stories of his past.
Of a was he had fought in, and the deeds that he had done.
In his exploits with his buddies. They were heroes, everyone.
And ‘tho sometimes to his neighbors, his tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke.
But we’ll hear his tales no longer, for ol’ Joe has passed away,
and the world’s a little poorer for a Veteran died today.
No, he won’t be mourned by many, just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary, very ordinary sort of life.
He had a job, and raised a family, quietly going on his way.
And the world won’t note his passing, ‘tho a Veteran died today.
When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great.
Papers tell of their life stories, from the time that they were young,
But the passing of Veteran goes unnoticed and unsung.
Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promises and cons his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow, who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country and offers up his life?
The politician’s stipend and the style, in which he lives,
Are sometimes disproportionate to the service that he gives
While the ordinary Veteran who has offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal and perhaps a pension small.
It’s so easy to forget them, for it was so long ago,
That our Bobs and Jims and Johnny’s went to battle
But we know, it was not the politicians
And their compromise and ploys, who won for us our freedom,
That our country now enjoys
Should you find yourself in danger, with your enemies in hand,
Would you really want some cop out, with his wavering stand?
His kin and Country, and would fight until the end?
Or would you want a Veteran, who has sworn to defend his home,
His kin and Country, and would fight until the end?
He was just a common Veteran and his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us, we may need his likes again.
For when countries are in conflict, then we find the Military’s part,
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor, while he’s here to hear the praise,
Then at least let’s give him homage at the ending of his days.
Perhaps, just a simple headline in the paper that might say
OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A VETERAN DIED TODAY
SUNDAY OF ALL SAINTS
The Sunday after Pentecost Sunday is called the Feast Day of All Saints. Every day in the Church calendar has a list of Saints, some famous and great, and some not so famous. In the eyes of God all Saints are famous and great, some we know more about and have become more popular than others. For example, many men and women struggled during the American Revolution, but we are aware of only the most famous and popular, like George Washington and his officers the same is true for the roll call of Saints in the Christian Church.
Each man, woman and child in the great history of the Church who witnessed for Christ is regarded a Saint by the Church. Since we have no way of knowing all of them, and since the list of Saints has increased many times over and continues to do so, our Church sets aside the Sunday after Pentecost as the Feast Day for All Saints.
We are obliged, not only to venerate the saints and to seek the assistance of the saints, but also to imitate their life and holiness. All Christians are called to holiness by virtue of the sacrament of Baptism. Every person, regardless of status and condition of life, can become a Saint and is duty-bound to people without exception when He said: “Therefore, be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.” St. Paul also reminds us of our duty to pursue holiness: “This is the will of God – your sanctification.”
What is holiness? Holiness is living according to the commandments of God and the Church; it is the daily fulfillment of God’s will, constant fidelity to the duties of one’s state, or more briefly – holiness is the Gospel translated into action.
All the saints are very close to us for they, like us, were once citizens of our earth and are of our own flesh and bone. They are members of the same Church as we are, although they belong to the Church Triumphant while we still struggle as members of the Church on earth or the Church Militant. They are not indifferent to our welfare and salvation. Hence, there exists no doubt that they readily listen to all our petitions and prayers and gladly present them before the throne of God.
The saints in heaven, then, are God’s beloved and intimate friends; and our protectors, intercessors and benefactors; our guides and models on the path to virtue and sanctity.

SANCTUARY LIGHT: The Sanctuary light is requested to burn this week May 31 – June 6 by a Veteran for God’s blessing and good for all Hospitalized Veterans.
