STATISTICS DON’T LIE.!!!
How to stay safe in the World today!
Where IS the Safest Place?

1.. Avoid riding in automobiles because
they are responsible for 20% of all fatal accidents.
2.. Do not stay home because 17% of all accidents occur in the home.
3… Avoid walking on streets or sidewalks because 14% of all accidents occur to pedestrians.
4. Avoid traveling by air, rail, or water because 16% of all accidents involve these forms of transportation.
5. Of the remaining 33%, 32% of all deaths occur in Hospitals.
So, above all else, avoid hospitals.

 But. …
You will be pleased to learn that only .001%
of all deaths occur in worship services in church,
and these are usually related to previous physical
disorders. Therefore, logic tells us that the safest
place for you to be at any given point in time is at
 CHURCH!
And . .. . Bible study is safe too!
The percentage of deaths
During Bible study is even less.
So,
Attend church,
And read your Bible
IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE!

Dormition of the Theotokos (Mother of God)
The Dormition of the Theotokos commemorates the death, resurrection and glorification of Christ’s mother, Mary, the Mother of Life. It proclaims that Mary has been “assumed” by God and that her spirit and body are now in his heavenly kingdom. It is a great feast in celebration of the falling-asleep of Theotokos which is preceded by a two-week fasting period in preparation. It is often referred to as the Assumption of Mary.
Dormition of the Theotokos is celebrated annually on 15th of August. There is no known date when it was first celebrated, though it is presumed to have occurred for the first time between the first and fourth century.
It is the customary of some churches to bless flowers on the feast of the Dormition of the Holy Theotokos. According to an old custom, flowers and medicinal herbs are blessed after the Divine Liturgy on the Feast of the Dormition. This custom most probably originated from the traditional belief that after Mary’s glorious assumption into heaven, her holy tomb was filled with a “heavenly fragrance” and flowers. (ct. St. Germanus, I Hom. on Dorm.) The herbs, used by our people as natural medicine, are blessed in commemoration of the numerous healings and extraordinary graces bestowed on the pilgrims at Mary’s tomb. (cf. St. John Damascene, Homily on Dormition I, 13)

Sunday, August 12 TWELFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
8:30 AM God’s Blessings and Good Health for all Parishioners
of the gospel of Christ.

TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD

The feast of the Transfiguration is one of the twelve principal feasts of our Church, having a one-day pre-feast and a seven-day post-feast. This feast falls during that time when the fruits of the earth reach maturity. From the earliest times in the Eastern Church, on this day fruit is blessed in thanksgiving to God for the first fruits of the earth. This custom was adopted by the Christian Church from the Old Testament which prescribed that fruit be brought to the Temple of the Lord. In the Book of Exodus we read: “You shall carry the first-fruits of the corn of your ground to the house of the Lord your God.”
The custom of blessing the first fruits in church was prescribed in the Canons of the Holy Apostles at the end of the third century. The Apostolic Constitutions of the forth century have a prayer for the blessing of first fruits. The local Synod of Carthage in the forth century gave prescriptions concerning the first fruits that are brought to church. The Sixth Ecumenical Council spoke of the blessing of the first fruits of grapes and wheat. In the early century Typicons and in the Typicon of Evergetes Monastery of the tenth century no mention was made of the blessing of the vine, that is, grapes.
In Greece, in the month of August grapes and wheat, which are the more important fruits, reach their maturity, for this reason, the custom of blessing the grapes and ears of wheat in church on the feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord prevailed there. In Rus-Ukraine, grapes of the vine were replaced by apples and other fruits.
