TURKEY-FEST: SS Peter & Paul U. C. C., Wilkes-Barre will hold their 11th annual TURKEY-FEST on Saturday, November 6, 2010 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, in the school hall, corner of North River and West Chestnut Streets, Wilkes-Barre. This event will feature a traditional turkey dinner, afghan raffle and Basket Auction/Raffle.
Dinners will be $9.50 for adults and $6.50 for children. Take-outs will be available. Walk-Ins welcome but Reservations are Encouraged call (570) 824-609. Bring a canned good or other non-perishable food item and be entered into our raffle.”

SANCTUARY LIGHT: The week of October 30 – Nov. 6 is requested by Mary Oshirak in memory of George and Helen Klem.

FLOWERS: The bouquet of flowers this week is donated by Sue, owner of Flowers And where we purchase the flowers for the Altar.

SYMPATHY: We extend our deepest Sympathy to the family of Rose Sivick who was called to her eternal rest. May her memory be eternal.

FOOD SALE: The Women’s Society of St. Vladimir’s U.C.C., Edwardsville is sponsoring a Take Out Food Sale only on Thursday, November 13, 2010. The sale will include – Sloppy Joe’s, Halushki, Borscht, Clam Chowder, Piggies and Baked Goods. Pick up time for food items is 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

PYROHY’S: A Pyrohy Project is being planned for November 29-30. This project requires a lot of help, it cannot be done if we do not have the help. PLEASE IF YOU CAN POSSIBILY COME TO HELP IN THIS MATTER, sign the page in the vestibule. Monday the 29th would be to eye the potatoes and Tuesday the 30th would be the preparation. Please try to come and help your church. The cost per dozen will remain at $6 and limited. Place your orders early, deadline for orders will be Monday November 22.

HOLY SUPPER: Are any of you parishioners interested in having this Holy Supper at our Church Hall on Christmas Eve??? A signup sheet is in the vestibule. If you would be interested in joining with your Parish Family for this Supper, please inform us so that preparations can be made. If we do not have enough participating then the Supper will be cancelled. This should be a nice gathering for those who live alone or to be with your family and friends. Let’s give it a try.

NEW FURNACE: A new furnace will be installed at the earliest convenience. Sorry we have to suffer a little cold until this is completed but just remember how our Lord suffered for us. By next weekend the furnace should be installed.

SORRY – no heat. The furnace in the Church is out of order and plans are in the process for either repairs or a new unit. This will take some time, so please dress warm for Church. Matters will be taken care of as soon as possible.

SANCTUARY LIGHT: The Sanctuary Light is requested to burn the week of Oct. 23 – 30 by Alison Ostrum in memory of Mark Skopek.

FLOWERS: Our thanks to the Halloway Family for their donation of flowers this week in memory of all deceased members of the Halloway family.

CHRISTMAS EVE HOLY SUPPER: Our Church Council also discussed having Holy Supper in our Hall. If you live alone or do not prepare any more for Holy Supper, the idea to hold this for Parishioners and their family was suggested. In order to do this nice tradition, we need your help. First – sign the sheet in the vestibule if you can attend and how many in your family. Second – those who know the tradition of how many dishes and what they consist of would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone can help to form this affair and bring our Parish Family together with such a nice tradition. No tickets will be sold and this is for all parishioners. Please try to help plan this Holy Supper.

LOTTERY TICKETS: You still have a chance to purchase a few Lottery Tickets for the Month of November. Try your luck.

DONUTS: Donut orders are being taken for Damyan’s school. If you placed an order they can be picked up on Friday October 29th at the Nanticoke rectory by calling Father at 855-5141 or they will be in the our church on Saturday or Sunday, October 30/31. The order sheet is in the vestibule. Father thanks you for helping Damyan.

MALANKA: St. Valadimir’s, U.C.C. in Scranton are planning their Annual Malanka
for Friday, January 14, 2011. Information on this affair will be in the near future.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES: This October the Archbishop Stefan Soroka invites all married couples to join in the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on October 17, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia. This celebration will afford you to say once again: “Yes…I do…I love you and always will” to your spouses and to God. They ask for your support through prayers for all our married faithful and your participation in this celebration of Marriage. There will be a banquet following in the Cathedral Hall where there will be the sounds of music and dancing, and love celebrated in good food, good fellowship and God’s joyful presence. Reservations are available if you are interested in attending this celebration. The cost is $30 per Anniversary Couple and $20 Per Guest. Deadline for registration is October 5, 2010.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Cross Valley Religious Education begins its 2010-2011 school year on Saturday, October 30th. The religious education program meets on Saturday mornings, from 9:30 to 11:30, in the school building at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 635 North River Street, in Wilkes-Barre. The schedule for this school year is being mailed to current families and newly enrolling families. Our religious education program is for students in grades one through eight. Older students are also encouraged to attend and assist with activities, when possible.

CEMETERY BOOKS: Our cemetery books are still available in the vestibule. If you would like to purchase one, the cost is $30. This book was a lot of research for Gloria Dran Elston who did so much to make this available to you. Gloria will be in our church for a visit on the weekend of Oct. 9/10, if you would like to speak to her about the book.

PRAY THE ROSARY: Before the 4:00 PM Divine Liturgy for the month of October the Rosary to the Blessed Mother will be recited. All Parishioners should please join in with the responses.
