Love is the only thing that can be divided, without being diminished.

SMILES ARE FREE – SHARE THEM

A New Year Prayer

Holy Father, God of our yesterdays, our today, and our tomorrows.

We praise You for Your unequaled greatness.

Thank You for the year behind us and for the year ahead.

Help us in Your new year, to fret less and laugh more.

To teach our children to laugh by laughing with them.

To teach others to love by loving them.

Knowing, when Love came to the stable in Bethlehem, He came for us.

So that Love could be with us, and we could know You.

That we could share Love with others.

Help us, Father, to hear Your love song in every sunrise,

in the chirping of sparrows in our backyards,

in the stories of our old folks, and the fantasies of our children.

Help us to pause and listen to Your love song,

so that we may know You better and better.

We rejoice in the world You loved into being.

Thank You for another new year and for new chances every day.

We pray for peace, for light, and for hope, that we might spread them to others.

Forgive us for falling short this past year.

We leave the irreparable past in your hands, and step out into the unknown New Year knowing You will go with us.

We accept Your gift of a new year and we rejoice in what’s ahead, depending on You to help us do exactly what You want..

I say it again, we rejoice!

In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

May we live in a world at peace and with the awareness of God’s love in every sunset, every flower’s unfolding petals, every baby’s smile, and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of our hearts

Khrystos Razhdayetsia – Christ is Born

THIS IS CHRISTMAS:

Not the tinsel, not the receiving, not even the carols,

but the humble heart that receives anew the wondrous gift

The Christ.  A Savior.

To watch and guide and love us through all eternity.

                           As you give praise and glory to God,

                                  May His peace and favor rest upon you and

                                   your loved ones, today and always

The Twelve Days of Christmas Meanings

There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me.

What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge that won’t come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?

This week, I found out.

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality, which the children could remember.

-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

-Two turtledoves were the Old and New Testaments.

-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit–Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

-The eight maids’ a-milking was the eight beatitudes.

-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit–Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control.

-The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.

-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles’ Creed.

So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol.

A Christmas Prayer of Good Wishes

May you be filled with the wonder of Mary,

the obedience of Joseph, the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds,

the determination of the magi, and the peace of the Christ child.

Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless you now and forever.

A Christmas Prayer

Loving Father, help us remember the birth of Jesus

 that we may share in the song of the angels,

The gladness of the shepherds and the wisdom of the wise men.

Close the door to hate and open the door of love all over the world.

Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.

Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings,

and teach us to be merry with clean hearts.

May the Christmas morning make us

happy to be Thy children, and the Christmas evening

bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,

forgiving and forgiven for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

THE FEAST OF THE CONCEPTION OF ST. ANN

December 9

The feast of the Conception of St. Ann in ancient times was known by several different names. One of the oldest is “The Annunciation of the Conception of the Holy Mother of God”. In the constitution of feasts, Emperor Manuel Comnen calls this feast the “Conception of the Most Holy Mother of God.” The Slavonic Typicons generally refer to it as the “Conception of Blessed Ann” or “The Conception of Holy Ann, when she conceived the Most Holy Mother of God.”

In our Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Synod of Lviv gave this feast the official title “The Immaculate Conception of the Most Pure Virgin Mary”. However, the Roman revision of our liturgical books restored the pristine title of the feast – “The Conception of Holy Anna, when She conceived the Most Holy Mother of God.”

The main theme of the liturgy of this feast was the miraculous event when Anna conceived the Most Holy Mother of God. This liturgy describes the grief and distress Joachim and Anna experienced because of their childlessness, and presents the fervent pray of Anna: “O Lord God of the heavenly Powers,” prays St. Ann, “You know the shame of childlessness, therefore, heal the pain of my heart and make this barren one fruitful…”  In response to her fervent supplication, an angel appears and announces the conception of the Most Pure Virgin Mary. “Your supplication,” says the angel, “has reached the Lord. Do not be sad, and cease weeping, for you shall become a fruitful olive tree, bringing forth a young shoot – a wonderful maiden, who will bring forth a flower – the Christ in the flesh, who will grant great mercy to the world.”

Her parents rejoice over the wonderful conception of the Most Holy Mother of God; the prophets rejoice; heaven and earth rejoice. The Church calls upon the Old and New Testaments to join in the rejoicing: “Come, people of all classes and ages, let us celebrate with the Angels the all-glorious conception of the Mother of God; patriarchs sing praises to the Mother of the King of all; you prophets, praise her whom you preached; you forefathers, praise your descendant – the Mother of God; you aged, praise the ancestor of God; you faithful, praise the root of your faith; you priests, praise the all-holy temple of God; you choirs of saints, praise the cause of your assembly; you armies of angels, praise the Mother of the Lord of all creation, and Savior of our souls.

Today we celebrate her immaculate conception whereas nine months later on the 8th of September she appears among us in her glorious Nativity.

SAINT NICHOLAS, THE WONDERMAKER

FEAST OF ST. NICHOLAS

December 6

Saint Nicholas, bishop of Myra in Asia Minor, is one of the most popular Saints, especially among Eastern Christians. He won great esteem through his numerous works of mercy during his life and through great zeal in defending the divinity of Christ against the heretic Arius of the Council of Nicaea in 325. He is regarded as the Patron Saint of children. He was popularized in America by the Dutch puritans who disguised the “popish” Saint as a Nordic, called “Santa Claus.”

In 1087 Italian merchants brought St. Nicholas’ body to Bari in Italy from Asia. A perfumed oil is still flowing out of his holy relics.

Our prince Vsevolod Yaroslavych introduced his feast into Ukraine under Pope Urban II (1088-99). Saint Nicholas is very popular among Ukrainians, both Catholic and Orthodox.

GOD GRANT ME

The serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,

Not as I would have it,

Trusting that He will make all things right

I surrender to His Will;

That I may be reasonably happy in this life and

Supremely happy with Him Forever in the next.  Amen

TWENTY SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

6 12 2020

NOVEMBER 29, 2020

St. Andrew

Feast Day November 30

St. Andrew was the “first-called Apostle, brother of St. Peter the Prince of the Apostles. Andrew, like his brother Simon Peter, was a fisherman. He became a disciple of the great St. John the Baptist, but when John pointed to Jesus and said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” Andrew understood that Jesus was greater. At once he left John to follow the Divine Master. Jesus knew that Andrew was walking behind him, and turning back, he asked, “What do you seek?” When Andrew answered that he would like to know where Jesus lived, Our Lord replied, “Come and see.” Andrew had been only a little time with Jesus when he realized that this was truly the Messiah.

SANCTUARY LIGHT: No Request

ALTAR CANDLES: The Altar Candles will burn for all services in the month of December, requested by Albert Piston in memory of his parents– Michael & Jennie Piston.

On this day people in Ukraine and all over the world are lighting candles in memory of those killed during the genocide of 1932-33.

“In 1932-33, Moscow’s Stalinist regime deliberately starved millions of Ukrainians to death in a man-made famine. Known as the Holodomor, the Ukrainian term for killing by starvation, the famine stands as one of the most horrendous genocides of the 20th century.

Targeting principally Ukrainian farmers, in a land that for centuries was known as the “breadbasket of Europe,” Stalin aimed to annihilate those parts of the Ukrainian population that were especially resisting Soviet repressive policies in Ukraine, and to terrorize the surviving Ukrainian population into submission to the Soviet totalitarian regime.

While the exact number of victims is not known, many scholars and historians place the number at 3 to as many as 10 million. One third of the victims were children; at the height of the Holodomor, tens of thousands died daily of starvation.

Years after this unprecedented crime, the Holodomor remains one of the least known genocides.”

Be At Peace

Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life;

Rather, look forward with the knowledge, That God will lead you through all things. Do not worry about what may happen tomorrow.

The same everlasting Father, Who cares for you today, will care for you now and every day. He will either shield you from suffering, Or give you the strength to bear it. And, when you think you cannot stand it anymore He will carry you in His arms.

Therefore, Be At Peace, Put aside all anxious thoughts.

Trust the Lord and He will see you through.
