REMEMBERING 9-11-01
We pause to bring to memory,
The day tears fell like rain;
The most eloquent of writers,
Could not define this pain.
We watched our shattered innocence,
Like dust upon the wind;
Scattered in the inferno,
To never return again.
Heads were bowed in prayer that day,
Faith was tested and tried;
And in the midst of sorrow,
Countless tears were cried.
Sorrow wrapped around us,
Like a bitter winter wind;
Faces flashed before us…
Those who would never come home again.
We heard the solemn roll call,
Of thousands who left us that day;
We heard of brave and selfless acts,
And the stories behind those names.
A nation was brought to its knees that day,
In a moment frozen in time;
A grief and pain we will never forget…
And words will never define.

Come, Holy Spirit of Love and peace, we long for your healing touch.
On September 11, 2001, our country was scarred by hatred and revenge…
We long for your healing touch. Awaken in us, Holy Spirit,
a deep and respectful remembrance…
That you are a God of forgiveness, not revenge
that you are a God of peace, not war.
Remembering these things, we ask to Bless our country and all those defending its ideals of freedom and liberty and bring them safely home.
May your gifts of peace, love, and forgiveness transform our hatred, anger, and fear. So that peace on earth will be possible once again.
