TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD SING-ALONG: The Holy Year Choir of Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church in the Hanover Section of Nanticoke will present a Christmas Concert and Sing-Along on Monday, December 28 at 7:00 PM, in the church on Center Street. The choir is directed by Dr. Richard Barno. A complimentary buffet will follow. Please plan on attending and bring a friend!

CHRISTMAS CAROL SING ALONG – The Choir of Saints Peter & Paul, Wilkes-Barre will hold their Annual Christmas Carol Sing-Along on Sunday, December 13, 2009, starting at 2:00pm. All are invited to join in the joyous singing of our traditional Ukrainian Koliada (carols) as well as many others, in anticipation of Christmas. Carols will be sung in the church followed by a cold buffet reception in the lower level of the church. Saint Nicholas will also pay a visit.

MALANKA 2010: The 6th Annual Ukrainian New Year Dinner Dance – MALANKA – will take place on Friday evening, January 15, 2010, 6:00pm to 1:00am, at St. Vladimir Parish Center, 428 North Seventh Avenue, Scranton. Sponsored by the combined Ukrainian organizations of Northeastern Pennsylvania, the event will be catered by Paul A. Wanas of Accentuate Caterers of Distinctive Events offering a generously varied American and Ukrainian dinner buffet including borshch, holubchi, chicken Kyiv, kobasa, pyrohy, along with a cash bar and dancing to the music of the internationally known orchestra “Fata Morgana” of New Jersey/New York plus a late night champagne toast. Tickets are $40.00 and can be obtained by contacting Gerry Adamchak at 824-3880 or Ann Beshada at 829-4202. Early reservations are encouraged as the event is usually a sell-out.

CONCERT BAND: The Wyoming Valley Concert Band will present “Celebrate the Season” – a free concert of Holiday music on Tuesday, December 15th beginning at 7:30 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, South Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre (across from the Franklin Street entrance to Boscov’s). The concert will feature organist Mark Laubach on the St. Stephen’s pipe organ. Come and enjoy some great holiday music.

WOMEN’S SOCIETY: The annual Christmas Party of the Women’s society will be held next Sunday, December 13th at 1:30 PM in the Church Hall.

ALTAR CANDLES: The Six Altar Candles that will burn for the month of December is requested by Michaelene Ostrum and Helene Sirak in memory of the Sirak and Ostrum Families. If you wish to donate for the Candles to burn for the month, the donation is $40 and will burn at all Divine Liturgies and Services of that month.

PYROHY PROJECT: The Pyrohy Project was very successful, thanks to all of our faithful parishioners and especially for the non-parishioners who came out to help with this Church Project. Approximately 450 dozen of Pyrohy’s were made and sold. It is a difficult job but everyone who helped enjoyed the friendly and happy atmosphere. God’s Blessings to all those who was so generous with their time and effort to make this project possible. Our thanks to Rose Sivick for her donation of $50 toward this project.

CHRISTMAS SHARING: Our parish will be collecting canned goods or imperishable food items to be donated to the St. Vincent’s Soup Kitchen. PARISH COUNCILS: According to the Eastern Catholic Church Law and Pastoral Guide of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the United States of America.
According to Metropolitan Stefan Soroka, we would like to introduce to you the new Pastoral Guide about Parish Financial Council and Parish Pastoral Council which will begin December. 2009. The pamphlet enclosed will explain in detail the Council’s. Next bulletin we will introduce you to the members of the Financial and Pastoral Councils.

The Council meeting that was scheduled for Tuesday, November 24th was very disappointing and upsetting to Father Roman. Only one member and Father was in attendance.

WOMEN’S SOCIETY: The Women’s Society regular monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, November 10, during preparation of the Piggie Dinner. All members are urged to come to help with the dinner preps. A new smaller refrigerator was purchased for the Hall kitchen by the funds taken in from the rummage sale. This was needed so that we do not have to run the very large refrigerator, which takes so much electricity, for when we have fund-raisers.

TURKEY–FEST: SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, will hold their 10th annual TURKEY-FEST on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, in the school hall, corner of North River and West Chestnut Streets, Wilkes-Barre. This event will feature a traditional turkey dinner, variety raffle and mini-festival. Dinners will be $8.50 for adults and $6.00 for children. Take-outs will be available. Walk-Ins welcome but reservations are encouraged – call (570)824-6090. This year we ask that those attending bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Food Pantry of the Catholic Community of North Wilkes-Barre – Holy Savoir/St. Christopher. Those donating a food item will be entered into our door prize drawing.

LUC MEETING: North Anthracite Council League of Ukrainian Catholics of America will hold their monthly meeting this Sunday, November 1, 2009, at Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, 240 Center St. Nanticoke, PA. Prayer Service will begin at 2:00 PM. The meeting, fellowship and social will follow.

PIGGIE DINNER: Tickets are available for our Piggie (Halupki) Dinner that will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Church Hall. The tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Serving sit down dinner from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Take- outs will be available from 4:00 – 5:00 PM. Donations of gifts for the Chinese Auction will be greatly appreciated. RUMMAGAE SALE: The Women’s Society wishes to thank all those who donated items, monetary or food to our recent Rummage Sale. It was a huge success thanks to all the members who came out to help and especially Anna Magill and Irene Frisbie who worked so diligently before, during and after the sale. The sales of items plus the monetary donations, food sales and bake sale amounted to $2901.80, the expenses for ads etc. will be deducted from this amount.

ANNUAL AUTUMN PARISH DINNER: The annual autumn dinner sponsored by St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Parish of Scranton PA will take place on Sunday, November 15, 2009 beginning at 12:30 PM in the Parish Center, 428 N. Seventh Ave.
Menu includes a complete homemade turkey dinner. Take-outs will be available, but must be picked up between 11:00 AM and Noon. TURKEY BINGO: Transfiguration of Our Lord U.C. C., Nanticoke is sponsoring its Third Annual Turkey Bingo on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, in the church hall, Bliss and Center Sts. Doors open at 12:00 with Early Bird at 1:00. Admission is $2.00 and prizes will be cash and turkeys. Food and beverages will be available for purchase along with homemade baked goods. PYROHY PROJECT: The Pyrohy Project will be held on Monday, Nov. 30 to prepare and Tuesday, Dec. 1 for the making and filling of orders. This project cannot be accomplished without the help. If you can possibly help in any way it would be appreciated. Try to lend a hand for you Church fund-raiser. An order sheet is in the vestibule and the orders will be limited.
