God’s Blessings and Good Health for all Parishioners

Morning Prayer

God our Father,
As I wake up, I realize that you are ushering in another day, untouched and freshly new. So, as I start this new day, I come to you in Prayer and ask that you will renew my mind and forgive the things I did wrong yesterday. I make a fresh commitment today that I will bring every thought and every imagination into the captivity and obedience of Jesus. Help me to be a branch that abides on the vine, to lean on you and to draw strength from You.
Today, in the face of all trials, tests, temptations, and tribulations, I will cut to pieces the snare of the enemy by speaking the Word of God, which will cause the enemy to flee from me and I will use my shield of faith to quench all the enemy’s fiery darts. I will pay no attention today to a suffered wrong, and I will take no account of an evil done to me, but will instead walk in love, seek peace and conduct myself in a manner that is pleasing to You.
Give me the wisdom and guidance and understanding today to be a Godly example to others, to reach out and help someone today, and to share Your Word with someone today, thus planting seeds that will someday bring a lost one to You, Father.

Finally, I ask You to fill me with Your Holy Spirit, as I go forth.

In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

SATURDAY OF LAZARUS Saturday before Palm Sunday
Every day of the Great Fast has its special liturgical features. The same must be said of its Saturdays and Sundays which are dedicated to some event in the life of Jesus Christ, His Blessed Mother and the Church or the Saints.
The special characteristic of the sixth week of the Forty Days Fast is that it spiritually prepares us for two great and glorious events in the life of Jesus Christ: the resurrection of Lazarus from the dead to which are dedicated the Saturday before Palm Sunday, and the triumphal entry into Jerusalem of our Lord Jesus Christ, which the Church celebrates on Palm Sunday, also known as Flowery Sunday.
In our liturgical books this week bears the name – the Week of Palms (i.e., palm branches), flowers or blossom-bearing week. The dominant theme of the services of this week is the ending of the Great Fast and the preparation of the faithful for the great miracle of the raising of Lazarus from the dead and Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
May this great and wonderful miracle of the resurrection of Lazarus strengthen also our faith in the divinity of Christ and our sharing in Jesus’ resurrection. That same Christ, who raised the four-day Lazarus from the dead, in His own time, will raise us also to a life of eternal happiness. He Himself assured us of this when He said: “I am the Resurrection and Life. Whoever believes in me, even though he dies, shall live!”

The spiritual meaning of Palm Sunday
The Jews wanted to see their messiah in power and glory. Accordingly, Jesus Christ, by raising Lazarus from the dead and by His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, gave them clear proof of His Divinity. When He entered Jerusalem, the entire city was thrown into commotion saying: “Who is this?” But the crowds kept on saying: “This is Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee.’”
The honor given to Christ lasted for only a brief moment, for His betrayal by Judas, His rejection by the people, His condemnation by the Jewish leaders, His passion, the way of the cross and crucifixion followed in quick succession. These very same people who, on Sunday cried out, “Hosanna”, within a few days would be crying out: “Crucify Him.”
Palm Sunday teaches us the instability of worldly glory and the vanity of earthly happiness. Joy and sadness here on earth are two inseparable sisters. Therefore, if we wish one day to have a share in the triumph of Christ in heaven, we must first undergo a Passion Week and a Golgotha with Him here on earth. Only then, will we be able, like Him, to joyfully enter into everlasting triumph.

Finally, my brothers, your thoughts should be wholly directed to all that is true, all that deserves respect, all that is honest, pure, admirable, decent, virtuous, or worthy of praise. Live according to what you have learned and accepted, what you have heard me say and seen me do. Then will the God of peace be with you.

VENERATION OF THE CROSS

The third Sunday of Lent is dedicated to the adoration of the holy Cross, the sign of Christ’s victory over Satan and human passions.
The Church displays the holy Cross to strengthen her children in their work of salvation and to be true followers of a Crucified Lord and save their immortal soul.
The Feast of the Veneration of the Cross-reminds us of our obligation to love and venerate the Holy Cross, because it is an “invincible victory of religion, gate to paradise, fortress of the faithful and defense of the Church.” On this Sunday of the Veneration of the Cross, the Church invites us to join in by singing “Krestu Tvoyemu” – “We honor your Cross, O Lord, and glorify your holy Resurrection” and thus honor the holy cross, the symbol of our faith and redemption.

THE MEANING OF THE CROSS

With the sign of the cross, we profess our belief in the Mystery of the Blessed Trinity, that is, one God in Three Persons – God the Father; God, the Son; and God, the Holy Spirit. We express our love and gratitude to Christ for the great work of Redemption, that is, for saving us from hell and opening the gates of heaven. We profess our faith in Christ who redeemed us on the cross. It is the symbol of our Christian faith. It is the summary of the Gospel message. It is the seal of the Christian doctrine. There is no true Christianity without the cross.

FIFTH GREAT FAST SUNDAY
Today is the last Sunday of Lent. Even though there remains one whole week to run the course of these special days of prayer and fasting, the Church, as if impatient to begin Holy Week itself, urges us to anticipate the glorious entrance into Jerusalem. She does this by prescribing Saint Mark’s account of Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem before His passion (Mark 10:32-45)
Saint Mark describes how Jesus takes the twelve apostles aside to tell them that He will be betrayed, condemned and put to death, and that He will rise from the dead. At this threshold of Holy Week, we can put ourselves into the very places of those twelve men and allow ourselves to be taken aside by the Savior for a talk in which He explains to each of us personally the mystery of Redemption.
The apostles were asking Jesus to help them understand at greater depth what will happen. Two of them, the brothers, James and John, quite ambitiously were looking out for their own best interests. Jesus challenged that ambition and explained that true glory lies in serving others. Jesus emphasizes that He Himself is here not to be served but to do the serving.
We can almost feel the keen disappointment of James and John and the indignation on the part of the other ten apostles. What we see among the twelve is a good example of self-interest: What’s in it for me: What’s the pay-off? What do I get?
This last week of Lent we have the opportunity to exchange places with James and John and the other ten apostles, to be with the Lord as He approaches Jerusalem.
We, however, have an advantage those twelve men lacked: we know already what lies ahead for Jesus. We know about the spiritual nature of His Kingdom. We can use the next seven days to renew our own efforts at making our lives deeply spiritual too.
Why do we come to Church?
Why do we assemble as Church?
Why will we celebrate the Eucharist once again, and then again, and again and again?
Why will we begin next Sunday once again the yearly commemoration of the events of the Lord’s last week?
There are various answers we can give to these questions, but I would suggest that the most basic, most fundamental reason we do these things is simply because of love. . . not that we have loved, but that we find ourselves- discover ourselves- loved first by Another. . . . by God.
We are here today because somewhere inside each of us we want, we need, that divine love, shown to us in Christ, to be poured once again into our hearts; so that once again we might be able to “put on love” (Col. 3:14); so that once again we might be made into Christ’s Body; so that once again we might be touched by a love we don’t find in ourselves and find ourselves able to abide in the love of Christ for us.
